Can businesses really run without managers or will they defend in to chaos and financial ruin?  This interesting and provoking Radio 4 programme highlights 4 very large organisations that have thrived by adopting a radical structure.

I’m a believer in managers and that in many cases businesses do need clear lines of authority to make things work, but………if you always do what you’ve always done…..perhaps its time to think outside the box.

Peter Day takes a look at four businesses that employee 1000’s of employees but without the traditional management tree by making use of self managed teams and individuals.  It might not be for everyone but does demonstrate the power of delegation, empowerment and the role of trust in making organisations work.

Give it ago – if nothing else it may get you to question why are so managers needed, and what would happen to all the management consultants?
